This is the third part of the Diablo series of games and a direct continuation of Diablo II. The game takes place in the world of dark fantasy, which is called Sanctuary .. Events revolve around the struggle of the army of Heaven with the army of the Underworld for the peace of Sanctuary. The players´ characters do not follow these factions, but lean towards the forces of Heaven, because the armies of the Underworld want to enslave and destroy Sanctuary.

The action in Diablo III takes place 20 years after the events that were described in Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, in a fictional world called Sanctuary. In those days, few could live to forty years. Almost all, participants of the first two games, have already died. Survived or ordinary people who do not know anything about what is happening or the bravest heroes. But they were crazy, and a new generation of heroes entered the battle. For many young people, the events of the past seem fiction. Among the few old survivors who have retained common sense - Deckard Cain, he was a companion of the player’s character in the first two parts. The story is divided into actions. Each action takes place in a new city with NPC and tasks.

Diablo III completes the storyline begun in the original part.
